DC District Winery Wedding // Kayla + Nathan

Several weeks ago I had the opportunity to second shoot with a local photographer, Cait Kramer. I was excited by this opportunity because it meant a chance to meet another local photographer and a chance to photograph a wedding in DC. While my weekends have been full of sessions and weddings and my week days are full of my full time job, my evenings are left with business prep and editing. I’ve lost the chance to meet other local creatives. Hence, why this wedding was extra special. As things begin to slow down in January I am excited about the chance to expand my network and meet more people in DC!

This wedding was also extra special because the design firm that I work for actually designed the venue! This was the second time a wedding was being hosted in this brand new space. It was opening weekend with beautiful fall weather and a gorgeous couple. When I arrived I was thrilled to meet the bride, and all her ladies. They were calm, cool, and collected as they finished their hair and makeup. They got ready just down the street from the venue and just down the street from the bride’s apartment. The groom and his groomsmen were actually also getting ready just across the hall. There were so many beautiful well thought out details. Kayla’s dress, shoes, flowers, invitations, jewelry, everything was carefully coordinated.

The day was full of many special moments, but some of my favorites include…The couple’s first look in a park right near their apartment. The intimate ceremony said by the Groom’s father. The couple exchanged their vows atop the District Winery overlooking the Anacostia River. The kisses with their puppy, Meatball, just after they became newlyweds. The crisp fall air and gorgeous trees surrounding their venue. Their epic waltz during their first dance! As I said, the day was full of lovely moments and as a photographer it is my joy to capture the fleeting moments so that these memories are preserved for generations to come.

Over the past year my photography business has grown in ways that I did not know were possible. Word of mouth is a powerful thing and friends and family have begun to spread my name and my work. I am so grateful for all of the opportunities that have come my way this season and I am so looking forward to 2018 and what is sure to be another busy year!
